People often regard the earth itself as a big round prison. Meaning, the most dangerous place a person could ever be is outside the bars of a prison. A quick look at the evening news would convince any viewer that the world is a dangerous place to live in. One violent crime followed by another, homicidal acts and others shows that humans are deeply flawed. Because the world outside is dangerous, criminal justice systems becomes vitally important to a healthy growing society.
Back in the days, prisons did not operate systematically as they do now, but rather, operated with both a combination of adults and children. Prisons today are way better than they used to be. San Quentin has a reputation for one of the most dangerous prisons in California. It is famous for housing death row prisoners. Only the worst get sent there to serve. The prison has also been the place where criminals met their end as the only prison to perform executions in California.
09. Kamiti maximum security prison, Kenya
Kamiti maximum security prison made it to the list due to its poor conditions and inhuman treatment. There is still no reliable source of water supply and waste removal systems as over 200 prisoners haul buckets of water around daily.
08. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
This prison holds over 14 of the most dangerous Al-Qaeda terrorist group suspects. It is rumored to have many prisoners unlawfully detained and tortured.
07. Black Dolphin Prison, Russia
Black Dolphin is located near the Kazakhstan border. The prison houses about 700 inmates, including serial killers, pedophiles, cannibals and terrorists. Netflix also has a documentary on this prison.
06. Attica Correction Facility, USA
For five days in 1971, more than 1,200 inmates took over a massive prison in New York state. At least 43 lives were lost in the process of the rioting. This prison housed the most dangerous prisoners in the county.

Tadmor prison is well known for it’s harsh conditions, extensive human rights abuse, torture and summary executions. The prison was blown up by militants if the ISIL in may 2015, causing a gross loss of prisoners.

Most prisoners are allowed to just two visitors per year, and that’s what the prisoners can ever hope for as the prison itself is hopelessly inescapable and surrounded by freezing waters of white lake.

Carandiry Penitentiary is today remembered as one of the worst prisons in the history of modern world, and the place of one of the largest human right violations in history. This prison housed over 8000 prisoners with only 1000 prison officers trying unsuccessfully to control them. Majority of its inmates suffer from HIV and other easily transmissible diseases, malnutrition and injuries treated with minimal medical staffs almost always without pain killers.
